You can count the seconds, sleep, read, write, listen to music, watch a movie, eat and drink and make sure to walk a little since it isn't good to be sitting all that time. You could try counting the seconds in Portuguese. If you're going to read, maybe you could read a few things about wherever in Portugal you'll be going. If you're going to sleep, maybe you can dream of your trip and what you'll be doing in Portugal. If you're going to write, maybe you could think of starting a travelogue. If you're going to listen to music, maybe you could listen to some fado, which isn't really traditional in the entire country but which is so in Lisbon, for example, where I believe you may be landing. You could also watch a Portuguese movie and you could eat a drink Portuguese food and wine. Hope you have a nice stay!

Make sure to move your legs once in a while to avoid the danger of getting blod clots- a rare but serious side effect of sitting in one position too long. For activities, I suggest sleeping, maybe looking through a book of nature photographs, reading comic strips, written games or puzzles (my favorite is Mad Libs, a story game where you supply some of the words before you know the story, making it funny), sudoku, etc. Crafts are also a good option, crochet or knitting a scarf is a soothing activity- it is very easy to learn one simple stich that can be repeated over and over to make the whole scarf. It goes fast with big yarn and a big crochet hook/knitting needles. For airport security reasons, I suggest using plastic knitting needles/ crochet hook so it doesn't appear dangerous. Playing with animator's clay or silly putty is another stress-relieving option that I enjoy. Some people like to read during their flights- if you do, be careful not to get a headache. Bringing headphones and your favorite music along can be a really good option too.

Before you go, print out the Portugal travelogues on TheTravelzine and read them on the flight so you'll be ready to make the most of your trip when you arrive: http://www.thetravelzine.com

Have a great time!

Do what everyone else does. Read a book or magazine, watch a movie or two, do a crossword puzzle, sudoku, talk with your neighbor, do your homework, play video games, play cards with your neighbor, take a nap or practice your Portuguese!

Good Luck!
