I was looking through my yahoo mail when I saw a message from an ebayer saying that they sent a payment to me for an item I was selling but I havn't sold any items for like 3 or 4 months. They said they would report me to ebay but I havn't gotten a payment from an ebayer because none of my items ever sell and I am getting worried because I have 100% positive feedbacks. what do I do?

The best way is to log in your ebay account and check your inbox. I assume there wont be a similar or duplicate message that you received in your yahoo mail. It is a scam and if you click on the link it will take you to sign in page of ebay where the scammer will be able to still your user name and password for more scams. Same applies to Paypal accounts. If ther is an important message, you will see when you log in.Where I say sign in page of ebay, well it will look like an ebay page but if you look carefully in the address bar, it will look much strange. Also there is another way to make sure and that is to to set your email account to reveal header and ip address of sender.
There are sites who can quickly check the location of ip address.

Does anyone else in your family use your eBay account? If so, check and see if they sold anything on your account. Did the buyer use PayPal? Check your PayPal account. If they paid by check, ask them the name of the bank that cashed the check. Ask the buyer to forward the email which they would receive telling them the won the item or at least the item description number, then look it up, it will list the seller. I would contact eBay too.

Good Luck.

note: Sassy has a good point. It might be someone fishing for info, you might just want to contact eBay before contacting the buyer again.

Be careful..it's probably spam. If you haven't sold anything to them, they can't leave you a negative. They can contact you through Ebay's system. You probably should send the email to spoof.com on Ebay's site. Don't trust any mail from Ebay if it isn't on your Ebay messages. Some of them look just like Ebay's page and everything..so you should be safe just to check Ebay's messages. They used to not be able to give feedback anyways after such a long time. Hope this helps...

justinbow,

this is a very common Phishing attempt these days.

DO NOT CLICK ON THE LINK IN THE EMAIL!

the sender is a scammer trying to get your info.

IF this email also came to your EBAY mailbox, report the email. on the bottom right hand side of the email, you will see a report link. click it and send it on.

chances are they will NARU the ID of the sender.

if it is only in your Yahoo mail, just ignore it.

BEWARE any email with a LINK!

NEVER click a link!

Log on to Ebay.com and check your account. You need in insure that your account has not been hacked. People will list items under your name and collect payment for them, when there is no legit auction.
