I never wear dressy jeans. I am a professional, just like anyone else, and I dress like one. I wear business suits/skirts, slacks, nice sweaters, etc. to work every day. I especially try to look nice for parent/teacher conferences. I feel that it shows the students and parents that I take my job seriously and work hard to do my best for the kids. Teaching is a difficult job and I want parents to know that I value their children's education. I feel that teachers who dress down are not being professional.

Dressy jeans are not okay for conferences. I do not wear business suits; they just do not fit me well. I do however wear either slacks and a nice jacket or a skirt and jacket. Many of the male teacher wear suits. If you do not go with a suit then at least wear a tie or a skirt (depending on your gender of course).
Teachers are professional and should appear that way when they talk to parents.

I was told that it is not a good idea to wear a business suit as a teacher because you want the parents to feel comfortable talking to you. If you are wearing a suit, it is too formal and may intimidate them, especially in a lower class neighborhood. Jeans are too casual, so there needs to be a happy medium. Nice pants or a skirt would do fine.

I think it is important to dress up for a parent teacher conferences. If you want to wear a business suit that would be fine but I would never wear jeans. That is very unprofessional.

I am a teacher. I wear business suits and dress pants w/ blouses every day. Teachers are professionals. To wear jeans and t-shirts to discuss student performace w/ parents is unacceptable. I can understand wearing jeans on a field trip day or field day. Otherwise, jeans are not appropriate for teachers to wear to work.

I don't see a problem with it. However if the students and their families are from a socio-economical group that might feel uncomfortable by you doing so, you might consider a sport coat and slacks. Consider your audience.

no need for that.. as long as you look "nice"
its what you have to say they will be listening to, not how you look.
