My youngest was this way all the time. Buy baby glycerine suppositories and use them. Make sure she gets enough liquids, have you given water yet? How about pedialite? It may help. But ask the Dr. I still say my baby was allergic to yte formula, they didn't have so many choices back then. I had to hold her little but open and let gas pass, it works but it is a job to have them feel so bad. The suppository shoule help get it started and not disrupt the tummy. Try to hold her open and see if gas passed to relieve the pain she is having. Good luck. You can put a littel warm pack on her tummy, a washclkoth that is warmed, not hot. this might help.

The only way to diagnose constipation in a baby is to see the hard poop or a doctor preforming an abdominal exam. Frequency is not used as a diagnosis in infants, and for infants up to 4 days if formula fed and 7 days if breastfed between bowel movements may be normal for some infants.
Straining is normal in babies and the pain could just be gas. Most home remedies or medicine for constipation can cause diarrhea, particularly if the baby is not constipated. Diarrhea is VERY serious in a baby under 12 weeks.
Please consider going to the doctor. Otherwise the safest thing is to offer a half oz of cooled boiled water a few times per day. Do NOT exceed 2 oz in 24 hours. Gripe water is also safe for that age, though it is your call.
Also if you are breastfeeding it is almost impossible for an exclusively breastfed baby to become constipated.

it's unlikely that's she's constipated because she's only on liquids, unless you suspect a milk allergy. I bet she has gas, especially if you notice her pulling her legs up a lot while she cries. Mylican drops work really well for this~ also, since she's still little, try holding her with your arm, tummy down. This puts pressure on her tummy to relive her gas. Moving her legs up and down can help as well. Talk to your doctor, I'm sure they'd be glad to give you more advice. I hope your baby feels better soon!

Hi, It's normal if your 3 weeks old baby crying because she's trying to adapt surround her. The best thing! Just be patient,
- give her as much as possible body contact (crarry around)
- sing her a lullaby
- breastfeed her
- take her a walk in fresh air
- give her tummy massage -> clockwise in circle with your forefinger with warm oil & warm hand.
- avoid spicy, acid food & those that release gas

Try 1 to 2 ounces of water..if that doesn't work. Try 1 to 2 ounces of prune juice mixed with water twice a day. When she does have a BM(bowel movement) look at it, is it black, or do you see blood, do you see brown liquid before or after a BM. Or if your child hasn't had a BM for 3 days after the prune juice and water...then call a doctor. This is from a mom of 3 and the book " what to do when your child is sick" it's written by two R. N.'s.

My daughter was really constipated and had colic someone told me to put 1/2 a tsp of canola oil or veg oil in her bottle. This worked wonders and was the best advice I ever received. Anyday I am going to have my second child and if I have any problems believe me I would do it again. I also but a warm (not hot) water bottle on her belly and it helped relieve a lot of gas. Hope this helps. oh and my daughter was stareted on enfimil and I also switched her to carnation good start.

Listen Young mother first calm your self down..Now, go to your kitchen and look for syrup, If you have karo syrup(white) if not white its's ok, step one: take half tsp, of syrup lightly warm, you taste the syrup first before giving it to the baby make sure it's not to warm. give it to the baby, with in 1 hr it should clean her right out also, delute her next bottle less formula and more water: if this doesn't work, then try giving her watery apple juice no juice that has acid just apple juice. If you don't have any karro the any maple syrup should also work. Call you doctor and let him become aware you the baby's constipation;

A few drops of Karo syrup in a bottle will do wonders. Mylicon drops are a bad idea - they help gas but make constipation worse.
