I've purchased lots of toys online and never had a problem yet. I've mostly used Toys-R-Us and ebay.

The biggest problem with purchasing toys online is the HASSLE of returning them when a child receives the same item from more than one relative. If you do try to return the item in store that was purchased online, they make you purchase something in the same department at some stores, which is frustrating if there is nothing else that the child "has to have".
Also, sometimes when purchasing toys online, its hard to tell the quality of the toy, the materials the toy is made of, the durability, etc that is why reviews from parents who have purchased the toy are always helpful when deciding whether or not to buy an item.
Lastly, sometimes parts are broken, or missing to a toy or board game, but it's usually easier to contact the toys manufacturer directly, rather than hassle with the unfriendly customer service of the online retailer (if they have any).

I have purchased several toys/games on line and I have never had a problem. You can always do a google search of the company you may buy from, check for reviews of that company. You can also review thier policy on privacy before purchasing on line. Most big name retailers realize that this is the wave of the future and are doing thier best to make sure online purchases go smooth.
