Cali. has a 3 strike law that if a criminals commits an act their be sent to jail for life on the third time. Wouldn't this cut down on crime?

Nothing actually cuts down on crime. When you speed, do you immediately slow down because it's the right thing to do? Or do you continue to speed because you don't take into consideration that you might get caught?
Criminals commit crimes on the ideas that they won't get caught. I think they should serve their term the fulltime everytime, not to teach them a lesson, but to keep the rest of society safe, which is the reason we started putting them in prisons to begin with.
Criminals are all insane, they don't think like normal people. They need to sit in jail and rot.

We can't afford it. What would you recommend for someone who was 1. Arrested for possession of marijuana. 2. Arrested for writing a bad check. 3. Theft of public benefits (i.e. drawing unemployment while employed) Or, someone who is arrested for possession of any controlled substance 3 times. Somehow, I dont' think life in prison is appropriate.
My state, and I suspect other states, have either 3 strike laws or habitual offender laws, but they are rarely used.
People want to cut down on crime, but they don't want to pay for it.
If the average citizen knew how hopelessly messed up our criminal justice system is, they'd be appalled.

Some should get life before the third strike. Murderers don't need a second chance.

No. Heinous criminals should not get any more strikes.
Any adult who molests children should only get 1 strike
and then put away. Maybe some of this stuff would stop.

Yes. Absolutely. Three times is actually quite generous and people would think twice if they knew their lives were on the line. However, there are times to possibly consider an alternative i.e. if they are not legally adults.

I think if they are just minor crimes it shouldnt count against them.
