No ,you defiantly cannot climb the Pyramids of Giza.
This has not been allowed for at least the last 30 years.
Unless you have the written permission of the Governor of Antiquities and are escorted. This now is only allowed for documentary film crews and very influential visiting scholars etc.
It is considered far too dangerous, rocks can move, and it really gets very windy up there at times.
Many have either died or been seriously injured in the attempt to climb them, this is a another reason climbing is no longer permitted.
But the most important reason is, they are protected heritage monuments.
I would not take much notice of people who say you can bribe your way up. It is not true.
No guard would consider it worth loosing his job, as well being arrested and charged.
You would also find yourself in a lot of trouble and may end up seeing Egypt from a slightly different perspective.
These days there is never a moment when the Pyramids are not guarded by the military, civil and tourist police.
Also, there are at 2 archeology teams working there under the leadership of Mark Ledner, and some of the team stay on site.
Dr Zawi Hawass is in charge of The Giza restoration and redevelopment program, and believe me he is not a man you want to get on the wrong side of.
You will be impressed enough to just stand beside them and go into their burial chambers. It is quite a unique experience and quite strenuous in itself. The Pyramids are open on a yearly rotation basis each year one is closed for checking research and restoration.Plus, the air circulation systems have to be cleaned and serviced.
I have never seen a picture that really does The Pyramids true justice.Their overwhelming immensity, and the reality that, there they are, a few metres from where you are standing, its awesome and a totally unforgettable experience.
Knowing that, your eyes are seeing the very same Pyramids that travelers have made pilgrimages to see, for the past 5,000 yrs.
Each time I go to the plateau it hits me with the same effect as the first time.
They will give you an amazing memory to think about for ever.
That should be enough!
Go to Egypt and see them you will be inspired I promise you!

I was surprised when I went to Egypt the actual number of pyramids that are there. You'd never have time to see them all. The three great pyraminds are not climbable, for the most part. One you can go into the chamber, deep underground, but if you have feels of being underground and in small spaces, I don't recommend it. The other, you can go up about 5 course of steps. Then there is a man who if you pay a couple dollars to, will let you inside to see a room there, but that's as high as you go. There is also another small building off to the side of that pyramid. We paid the entry guard and he let us in, even though I guess this is normally off limits now. What an incredible place that was. Be careful of the camel scams around the great pyramids though!

I was a bit disappointed when I visited the pyramids. We were escorted into one passage down to the kings chamber and that was it. We passed other gated passages which looked very interesting but had to stick to the tour. As for climbing on the outside, NO. I have read stories from the 1050's of people climbing up the sides and feeling energy etc. but that has all been stopped. Enjoy your trip if you go.

Not by law. However, in Egypt many things can be arranged. I have several friends who have photographs showing them in places that the guide books tell you that you can not go. A little cash on the side will get a traveler almost anything. However, they are very old structures and should be treated with respect and care.
