I just completed my yearly physical. I am 61 yrs old. I went for 4 yrs without having a pysical. My doctor said my white blood cell count is 19.9 and normal should be 3 - 10. I have no symptoms. All other tests are normal. Could it be stress-related, sleep deprivation? Or would it have to be some disease such as leukemia? He referred me to a hematologist. I will not see him for a week. I am concerned.

No you would not necessarily have anything like Leukaemia.White Blood Cells fight infections or other organisms in the body that should not be there. They are part of your body's defence system and play a particularly important role in your body's defences. You probably have some sort of hidden infection.

Leukemia is usually associated with a higher WBC count.
The hematologist will be better able to find the significance of your lab test.
