Our country is being invaded by millions of illegal immigrants. This will have more important long-term consequences for the US than most of the other topics in the news today. All of the population increase over the next generation or two will come from immigrants and their children. There will be increased balkanization as social blocs compete for government-granted favors. Unlike earlier immigration in which immigrants had a relatively high educational level and the US thus saw a net gain in the abilities of the work force, the new immigrants have a low educational level, and so will serve as an underpaid proletariat to breed political unrest.

The USA is completely disconnected from the condition of the rest of the world. We are being blinded by too much. That is the biggest issue in our nation today.
Personally, I like the longterm outcome that is on its way. With a world around us swirling too fast to notice we are more likely to pay attention to the situations around us here at home. Perhaps then we can stop being the world's police and solve issues that directly relate to the citizenship.
We are a democracy that has become blind to our own power and weaknesses. It can't be long now and we will become humbled. It will hurt our national pride but that may be the kick we need to work out our local issues and get out of the empire business.
But until it happens; I guess we'll continue stumbling blinded through the world knocking over top-heavy dictatorships and fragile economies. It's not a threat when it is said,"What goes around..."
I would like to see our President impeached and handed over for war crimes with Rumsfeld and Cheney. They are complicit in violating the Geneva convention and issuing unlawful orders. Both are federal crimes as well as war crimes. That may be a while in coming though so I wouldn't say that it is one of today's biggest issues (maybe later though).

Polarizing politics. For every answer you hear to this question there will be finger pointing. The in-fighting between Republicans and Democrats, Liberals and Conservatives, etc. is a plague. We seriously need to seek out and elect bi-partisan politicians to take our government is a new direction that cares more about the real issues facing Americans than that of ideological rhetoric like gay marriage and abortion, which have little to do with our daily life and struggles. When you put that aside, we are all generally the same, seeking the same goals in life. Some day we should stop seeing ourselves as one or the other and start seeing ourselves for what we are, Americans.

The divisive, hate-filled politic fear mongering you see on this board every day. That is what will lead to the breakup - very sad since we all really want the same thing: safety, stability, good schools, health, family. Only evil people would say some of the things I read on posts in here and I think they need to take a hard look at themselves, and see how Satan is using them as a tool to break apart the greatest Christian nation in the world.

Although it is not talked about on the news, I feel that 911 truth is a major issue that needs to be looked at much more. It is the source of all our problems since and if we want these problems to go away we need to first look at the source of the problem which was 9/11. It appears that the truth is far different from what we were told.

I don't think Americans take their right to vote seriously enough. After seeing how many people are unhappy with the way Bush handled or is handling this war I think people need to really see how important voting is and how it can affect the way our nation it going. And not just voting but educated voting. The young don't care and the old don't think it matters anymore, what is wrong with this picture. We could be going back to the moon but any money we would have for that is going to the war in IRAQ... We are so busy fighting other peoples fights we aren't progressing in other areas... That is just my opinion, take it all with a grain of salt

Two wars; a divided political system; a misguided leader; over-spending; voters that fail to research the issues before casting a vote; a consumer-based economic system that is controlled and manipulated by a greedy and wrongfully arrogant media system; and my statistics teacher, who thinks that only HE knows the absolutely correct number.
