HELP this is really crazy and is surely screwing up my future and a career I am barely starting and now profecionally performing!

I got in trouble when I was 17, i'm now 18, and I'm supposed to go to court in a few days and supposed to get locked up, as what my lawyer said.
It's my 1st time getting in BIG trouble like this, Its a drug offense.

I've been told by friends 1st offense ALWAYS just gets probation depending on your attorney.

WHAT SHOULD I DO GUYS!... I only have less than a month of freedom, and might not see my family in Y E A R S !

Please help, i'm really stressed out, and thinking of fatal choices.

I've already had this conversation witn my attorney, but I want more options.
Im on OK. Attorney says bes deal is 6mo in RID. and to "HAGAR" FYI I was there during the scene, I wasn't the one making the crime, but all the ones there got the same charges. Thank you very much.

It's still a sad situation.
please help.

First offense in all cases does not mean mandatory probation. And I agree with Bullwinkle, it really depends on what you were arrested for. Were you slinging joints or dime bags on the corner or were you traficting kilos out of state? How much time are you looking at?
Unfortunately your friends were not giving you clear advice. Legal advice is best given by an attorney, not your smoking buddies.
If your lawyer is suggesting 6mo as your best bet, see if you can cop out to the 6mo., have your attorney try and get you into a bootcamp, you are young, 1st big crime, you could learn alot from the experience. Fatal choices shouldn't be an option. Just Take one day at a time, put your attorney to work on your behalf. An attorney isn't nothing more than an extension of yourself, tell him the most you are willing to accept, have him negotiate with the States Attorney, you might have to do time you might not. But either way just learn from your mistake, stay out of trouble in the future, and walk away from this experience a better man. And definitely stay away from the lure of easy money, there is always a high price to pay if you get caught.
This is not the end of your world its just a new path you are paving. Good Luck and Stay Strong.
One piece of advice I can give you is to write a letter to the Judge, courtesy copy a draft to the States Attorney. File the document with the Clerk of Courts, they will stamp it and put it in your case file, the Judge must review your case file before your sentencing. Explain in your letter your sincerity, and how you know you were wrong, and about your future plans, and beg for leanancy. But please keep it sincere, a Judge can see a snow job, take responsibilty for your actions, It only takes a few minutes to file. The Judge will hopefully see your honesty.
And once again Good Luck , I hope it all works out in your favor.
Just because you have a criminal history, doesn't mean you are not capable of now being a law abiding citizen, the choice is up to you, and that choice will determine your future successes in life. Don't think your conviction destroys your future, only the choices you make from this day forward can do that.
If you have time to give more information regarding your charges it would really help in answering your question.

Sorry pal, but sentencing laws vary by state. Whether or not you get probation depends on the seriousness of the crime and other factors. You need to have this conversation with your attorney, not with us. Your attorney knows the case and the people that respond to this question might not even be attorneys, let alone familiar with the laws of your state/jurisdiction.

Stop thinking about fatal choices, first of all. You'll get through it one way or another. Yes, probation is common for first offenses, although there are no guarantees in life. Hang in there and keep clean and hope for the best. Sorry I can't do any better than that.

If you can't do the time, you shouldn't have did the crime. Be a man and do the time. Don't do anything fatal, chances are you won't do much time with how liberal this country seems to be getting.

As for your additional comments, if you don't like the answers you are getting, don't ask. Hopefully your "career" as a drug dealer are over.

Sign up for a college course or something so when you go to court the jusdge will see you are doing something to better yourself and not want to pull you away from it. Act respectful, dress nice, have a good attorney and join a college/trade class and you will be fine.

1rst offense doesn't ALWAYS get probation. It depends on the crime. Think about it if your first offense were 1rst degree murder do you really think you'd get off with probation only?

One sure way to avoid jail and or prison is not to commit crimes.

Without more facts - charges, State, priors, drug type and amount - it's hard to advise you. Another question, including this data, would be helpful. Good luck.
