The four main gaming system vendors are Voodoo, Velocity Micro, Falcon Northwest and Alienware. Dell purchased Alienware and Hp purchased Voodoo within the past year, so I would avoid both of those for now to see how everything shakes out with the transition. Alienware has also been suffering from quality problems of late too. But, of all four vendors, Velocity Micro would be your best bet for most inexpensive rig, while Falcon would win honors for most expensive, even with their budget Talon system (expect to pay no less then $2500).

You can build one. But i strongly suggest going to the alienware website. They have some pretty sick pcs. Also a dell xps would be a good system with a 256-512mb graphics card and a 19" Ultrasharp flat panel monitor. Look into all the pcs you can and compare them. Also go to newegg.com and see the parts and pcs they have for sale there. I have a few friends who built there pcs with parts off of newegg.com
