you can write 3 equations from the info given
let x be the # of $5 bills, y be the $10, and z be the $20

5x + 10y + 20z = 185
x+y+z=14
z=2x

substitute z=2x into the first 2 equations

5x + 10y +20(2x)=185
x+y+2x = 14

rewrite the 2nd equation as y=14-3x
and substitute it into the first equation

5x + 10(14-3x) +40x = 185
5x + 140 -30x + 40x = 185
15x = 45
x=3

plug in x to find y and z
z=2x = 2(3) = 6
3+y+6=14
y=5

so there were 3 $5 bills, 5 $10 bills, and 6 $20 bills
