He was handpicked by Dylan in a way, Dylan invited him for his opening act during his last tour and introduced him on a large scale to wider audience.

If you like Janis...try listening to Beth Hart. She will blow you away.

I don't know if you have ever listened to Jeff Buckley.
He is no longer with us, but he left a beautiful legacy of unbelievable music. I hope you check him out, he had a 4 octave voice, just like his father Tim Buckley. Stunning songwriter too.

Definitely some Red Hot Chili Peppers. They're my favorite band, and I like a lot of the stuff you listed so you'd probably like them.
