It semes now adays, more and more emphasis seems to be placed on what one can do in the workplace than one's works in college when it comes to hiring people. It seems that the popularity of online degrees has skyrocketed in the last several years as well. Also, recruiters from companies are coming to campuses and offering outstanding jobs for people if they are willing to leave college for them, suggesting that college is losing its importance. I was also under the impression that college was also a time for personal growth in addition to learning beyond high school, but it also seems nowadays that people go to college for "financial security" more than anything. So I pose two questions:

1. Will traditional college become a thing of the past soon?
2. Are too many people going to college with the real intention of hoping to make more money rather than to experience personal growth?

To answer your 2 questions.
1. I haven't heard of that, but hope so.
2. I'm sure they are going to college hoping to make more money, and that isn't true. I have a AAS degree in Human Services, and I'm making the same as someone with a GED. Plus, I'm probably only using 10% of what I learned in college at my work. I also know personally a guy with a Masters Degree in social work, who left the job to work as a correctional officer (State or Federal) and he said all he needed was a high school diploma, and he was starting out making $7,000 more per year then being a social worker. I also know a lady where I work who is a social worker as well with a Masters degree and she use to make more money as a cook about 10 miles from here. Thats really sad, but colleges do say a lot about attending college to make more money, which in my opinion isn't all true. Another then that college doesn't tell a person, is that the more money one makes...the higher the stress level!!!
