The current Gulfstream is capable of flying 6,000 miles, enough to get her home to San Fran EVERY weekend. So WHY does she need the gas guzzling 757? Is she afraid to land and refuel in the Midwest?

The Gulfstream isn't big enough to hold her ego. I'm surprised she doesn't have a C-5 Galaxy.

Yeah SHE demanded it (a C 32) and then when it became public she realized how bad it looked and then tried to claim the republicans were forcing it on her. She demanded it from the start and she even said that if she didn't get it she would cut the military funds.
People only started hearing about it after it all blew up in her face. If they had heard it from the day she demanded it they would realize she is lying about not demanding it.
This is from the original article BEFORE she tried to claim it was being forced on her:
costs about $22,000/hour to operate. It has a game-room, stateroom, showers, a communications center, and seating for 50.
Please keep in mind that this is the same aircraft as used by the Vice President and the First Lady when they travel on official business.
She was originally offered the same accomodations as Dennis Hassert had when he was Speaker, a C-21 executive jet, which costs about $900/hour to run. She objected to this because the C-21 doesn't have enough fuel to get her to California without stopping for a refuel. I can understand this objection, and I think it would be reasonable to give her a plane that can make the trip to California without a stopover.
So then the Pentagon came back with an offer of a C-37 jet, which is smaller than the C-32, seating about 10, I believe, but has the capacity to reach California without refueling. It also costs about $5,500/hour to operate, making it much cheaper than the C-32. I believe that this is a reasonable offer.
She rejected it out of hand, demanding the same accomodations as the VP. I have no idea what makes Pelosi thinks she deserves such accomodations, but if I were the Pentagon, I'd reject her request. The military are not supposed to be personal shofers for politicians. She can either acept the generous offer of the C-37, or she can make her own travel plans. And if she uses her position to start defunding the military, the Republicans should play that up in the media. They should start calling the Dems on their graft and ethical issues. She claims she will do everything she can to conserve resources

She won't be the first to use it, and why does Bush need a 747?
Gulfstream's are nice business planes but cannot carry the security and others it need to carry!
I guess you don't have any problems that Bush's father uses it to fly to Europe, which a Gulfstream can fly as well, and Nancy Pelosi, the 2nd in line to the presidency, is certainly of higher rank then the secretary of defense who uses it all the time!
It also carries a vast array of communication systems which a Gulfstream cannot carry!
And yes, it is a security hazard to refuel!

Focus on something that is actually TRUE.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- The White House on Thursday defended House Speaker Nancy Pelosi against Republican criticism that her desire to fly in an Air Force transport plane is an extravagance.
"This is a silly story and I think it's been unfair to the speaker," White House spokesman Tony Snow said.
In an interview with Fox News Wednesday night, Pelosi speculated that Department of Defense officials were distorting the story as retribution for her stance against the war and former Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld.
"There are probably those in the Department of Defense who are not happy with my criticism of Secretary Rumsfeld, the war in Iraq, other waste, fraud and abuse in the Defense Department, and I guess this is their way of making their voices heard," she said.
After the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Pentagon agreed to provide the House speaker, who is second in the line of presidential succession, with a military plane for added security during trips home. Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, an Illinois Republican, flew in a small commuter-sized Air Force jet.
...Snow on Thursday said the negotiations over Pelosi's transport ***have been conducted solely by the House sergeant-at-arms and the Pentagon, with no direct involvement by the speaker or her office -- or the White House.***
The guidelines provided by the Pentagon say Pelosi could be accompanied by family members, provided they pay the government coach fare. The plane could not be used for travel to political events. Members of Congress could accompany her on the plane if the travel is cleared by the House ethics committee.

Republicans are taking situation with the size of the airplane. . The request for an more suitable airplane by ability of the domicile Sargeant At palms became into based on the reality that Ms. Pelosi represents the state of CA vs. IL, the place Hastert represents. there's a super distinction in terms of distance between D.C. and IL vs. D.C and CA. the subject became into in refueling stops that should could be made. The Gulfstream airplane Hastert used ought to fly from D.C to IL and lower back devoid of having to make a refueling provide up. If Ms. Pelosi makes use of it, it might have the flexibility to holiday one way non provide up only under optimal wind circumstances and would as a result could refuel alongside the way that's a protection subject. Tony Snow, White domicile spokesman pronounced immediately that mentioned the negotiations over Pelosi's delivery have been carried out entirely by ability of the domicile sergeant-at-palms and the Pentagon, devoid of direct involvement by ability of the speaker or her workplace or the White domicile. It became into additionally to accomodate different participants of the CA delegation who will could pay a fare to holiday on it, it does no longer be a unfastened experience. This additionally blanketed journeys lower back to work out the folk who positioned her in workplace no longer for inner maximum excitement. Mrs. Pelosi's request isn't new for a speaker, who's 2d-in-line in presidential succession. A protection source mentioned the speaker's nicely-known get entry to to a militia airplane started out after the Sept. 11, 2001, assaults.

nancy wanted a plane that would fly nonstop for SECURITY reasons, so she would not have to land and refuel in an un-secure air force base somewhere in the middle of the US,,in their business they know how to get what they want by using a different set of requirements, I say put her a,, in a fighter jet and take her to calif.
"It has everything to do with security,'' Pelosi said. She added that Bush had personally told her that because the speaker is second in line of presidential succession, behind Vice President Dick Cheney, he was concerned about her security.

Not certain, but Bush said she does. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that she is the 2nd in line in back of the President now, that the country is at war and she is a very important person. Would you expect Cheney or Bush to fly coach on a passenger plane? Shes right in back of Cheney when it comes down to it.

She wanted a plane that could fly her non-stop from DC to San Francisco. My understanding is that she has decided to fly commercial vs a smaller military plane that would have to stop for refueling. *edit* Pelosi stated she wanted non-stop so she would have no delay in getting home to her family.

She needs it because after the Democrats won she went out and bought a bunch of BDSM gear. The chest she keeps her gimp in fit on her old plane but the ceiling was too low to hang the new the **** swing. Plus the bed of nails she sleeps on wouldn't get through the door on the old plane either.
I heard if Hillary wins Nancy and Bill are going to completely redecorate Air Force One in a sex slave theme. Some kind of flying sex dungeon.

Pelosi is such a self-serving twit, if she thinks she deserves transportation, give her a freaking FORD PINTO.
If it absolutely has to be a plane, she might be worthy of a Piper Cub or maybe a cropduster. No offense to crop duster pilots, but Pelosi is pretty good at spreading fertilizer (manure), so all those crop duster pilots better watch what they do or sh will be coming to replace them with herself.
