I wish you wouldn't call it circumcision. Couldn't you just call it something like " horrible female genital mutilation, often leading to death". By the way this is not a practice that is universal in the Muslim world. You might say it is more typical of Africa rather than Islam. Or am I wrong about that?

Muslims have very strict rules about discussing anything that personal. They don't openly discuss sex or sexual organs, let alone any of the mutilation. You need to keep in mind that many of these people, including the women, do not find the act horrible. To them it is part of their culture. I feel as bad for those young girls as I do for many African tribal customs like stretching out the neck, or putting plates in the bottom lip but it not for me to judge.

Well, I am a Muslim and I never heard about female cicumcision in our community. I have previously serached this topic in Internet and I understood that it is prevelant in some African countries irrespective of religion. There is also lot of agencies working to discourage this practice.

That's not a muslim practice it's a regional/cultural practice by a few countries, some are in Africa (and mostly Christian) and a few scattrered in the middle east (among muslims). It's not a "muslim" practice.
