I understand that slavery was wrong and still is but...

That was over 200 hundred years ago. No black person in this day and age has every been subjugated to that level of abuse or mistreatment. If you were never personally affected by slavery what does it matter now?

I mean if people cared that much about the atrocities of slavery then they would be actively on the streets trying to stop the slavery that takes place in america today. The thousands of people forced over here to be prostitutes and sweat shop workers. that happens right here in america.
If you are a person regardless of color of skin then the fact that if there WAS slavery against your people in the PAST shouldnt matter when compared to the slavery that still hapens today in this very country (the US).

I just wanted to bring this up to maybe try and get people to think about someone other than themselves and try to help the people CURRENTLY enslaved in this country.

Just a thought...

First of all this goes out to finley036:

I am a soldier in the US army i have no friends that are not "green" I have deployed to Iraq and i dont see anyone for anything based on skin or color so for you to try and say that i "havnt talked to a black person" i guess your right..

I have talked to many americans who are black and they have many insights into the world and how they percieve it and their opinions and thoughts are as calued to me as any one elses.

The fact you would try and say that i have never talked to anyone or LISTENED to someone based on their skin color shows a real bigotry and bias in your life and i am sorry for that.

Midoria:

You missed the point of my question...

I dont care about 140 years ago or 200 years ago. I care about now. people in america are enslaved right now and people dont seem to care. people learn in history books from an early age about the slavery tha happened in americas past. (it was an atrocity) but what about today? what about the things WE can change in TODAYS AGE?

People i am not trying to say we should forget about the slavery in the past i am trying to say we should focus MORE on the slavery happening NOW!!

It was a big thing back then and I think their families keep it going. They continue to talk about it, therefore, they cant let it go. I probably wouldnt either, I guess.*

Actually, it was about 246 (1619-1865) years of slavery...I see you didn't take into account Reconstruction and Jim Crow. We just got rights like 50 years ago! Above all else I don't see any black people asking questions in person or on yahoo about slavery. Obviously, you didn't do any research because if you did you would know that Black people are still recovering from slavery. Did you know that there are still Black communities down south picking cotton! It's biased people like you who keep bringing it up and stressing about it lol. Ha Ha I am well aware of a tiny percentage of black people with that "whitty keeping me down mentality" it's not to many of those around though it's all in your head I’m sure (have you actually talked to black people before… probably not). I wonder have you asked your white-trash counterparts...why they keep blaming educated Black people and Hispanics for their illiteracy, poverty, and unemployment...probably not. I know I asked a few and had to dip out the back door pronto lol!!!

The slave societies of Greece, Rome and Egypt lasted plenty longer and had innumerable caucasian slaves besides as many different races purely people who have been given unlucky and misplaced wars or had charges and have been bought into slavery that's exactly the comparable as what occurred in africa interior reach warlord advertising POW's into slavery it did no longer commence out around racism before everything that custom stepped forward over the years yet do no longer bypass over the reality and act like it by no ability occurred to everyone else it has occurred to all of us of all races at any given time in historic previous and maximum of those human beings do no longer carry grudges anymore its time to enable bypass and pass forward.

Well the reason why blacks still make a big deal out of slavery is because in a way we are still in some form of slavery. The blacks can't just let go of slavery because even in school we are taught about slavery and i don't recall ever hearing that much about any other race in history as much as you are taught about the blacks and slavery. So before we can let it go i feel society needs to let it go and then they can as well.

I may not have been a slave, but don't assume I have never suffered any injustice because Im black. Because I dont know many black people that can say they have NEVER at least supected that they were a victim of racism. But we all grew up with it, so its not like we dont know how to manage. However, we reserve the right to complain about sh1t from time to time.

Yes, slavery is past. We better forgive and forget.
The racists should cleanse their brains by learning to love and to respect people who have been considered as their slaves. Because, in reality, all human beings are equal children of the One True God.
The descendants of the slaves should learn to forgive and forget, try harder to get proper training physically, intellectually and spiritually to give new lessons of equality to the following generations.

they do whine a lot. they think they were the only victims on this planet. jews were tortured. chinese were mistreated as well by japs and when they first came to america. blacks at least had something to eat and to sleep on when they were slaves. i doubt jews or chinese had the same type of treatment. they were KILLED and used for experiments. do these people whine and complaint as much as blacks? i dont think so. many blacks act as if the whole world owe them something.
