My wife and I each have an iPod, she doesn't want the same music as me on hers and vise versa, but everytime either of us plug into the comp, it updates and puts the same songs on each pod, how can we prevent this??

Your computer will mount any iPod plugged into it, as long as that iPod is properly formatted for your operating system.

I have 2 and they both show up on the desktop and in iTunes (Mac & PC).
The automatic "overwriting" only happens if you have your iPod set to Auto Sync.
Plug in your iPod. In the bottom right of the iTunes window are 2 little iPod symbols. The right one is an eject. The left one is the options window.
Turn off Auto Sync music.

here is how you can do it.
first, make a playlist of all the music you want on a particular ipod.
when you plug your ipod in, go to its settings.
next, go to the music tab.
then, click sync from playlist, and check the one you created.
Do this for both ipods, and you should be good!
also, for any more ipod questions, you might want to post it under mp3 players to get more responces.
