and derive revenue from it like they do from alcohol and tobacco taxes. Remove the crime and you remove the criminal element, give them a smaller playing field. After all, marijuana is no more harmful than alcohol or tobacco, and probably less so.

I'm not a pot smoker myself (makes me paranoid). But I don't know why pot was ever made illegal in the first place. Have you ever heard of violent crime committed by some one who was high on POT???? Perhaps it posed a threat to the tobacco cartels or Alcohol industry. And that BS about pot being a "gateway" drug to other drugs is just that, BS.

However, if you make it illegal now, you strip the corporations that own the penitentiaries of thousands of potential slave laborers, as inmates are forced to work for 25 cents/hour. So you see, crime DOES pay ..... it pays corporations billions on saved labor costs.

legalization of all illegal drugs would benefit our society. only removing the enforcement doesn't remove the criminal element, like you said. every major research done has shown that legalizing the substance and treating the addicts would be just as or more effective as punishment, at a tenth of the cost.
addiction to any controlled substance requires weakness and stupidity, however, that's not a crime, so why treat it as such?

The federal government does grow it already. Makes it into cigarettes and gives them to several patients. There were more patients but they passed on.

Do not believe me check out the Montel Williams Show ....link below.

Might as well legalize it and treat it like alcohol..

Heh, I'd love to see the day "Ganja" was legalized. It'll never happen in my lifetime, but it's a nice thought nonetheless. If it does though, I'm buying a farm!
