Because we compare it to our total experiance, for example if you are 5 years old and someone says, you'll have to wait for a year, that seems like a very long time, it is 1/5 of your life, (and realy probly more like 1/2 because as an infant you are probly not self aware). But if you are 50 years old and someone says, you will have to wait for a year, it isn't so bad because it is only 1/50 of your total experiance to date.

When you are 10, a year is about 10% of your life. When you're 100, it is 1%. Hence time seems to go by more quickly because it takes up a smaller percentage of your life.

As you get older, you get more and more responsibilities. First you get a job, then you get a career, then you get a wife, then family, then you just keep getting more and more things you need to pay attention to. These things take our focus and attention so we don't notice time pass as much. When your young, you have less to worry about and you get alot more free time, and time is very abundant. Its too bad that time seems to fly as you age, before you know it, your dead.
Enjoy today while today lasts!
