I have choices on where to live. I've only been to Orlando, so I don't have much background. I don't want itty-bitty but not looking for big ol' city. I like to fish and small game hunt. Don't like brutal heat or humidity. Too picky? Is there a region where I would be content? Thanks!

St Johns county near Jacksonville Florida is fantastic! I taught for 6 years in the crap hole called Southern California then fled here and havent been sorry at all.

I bought a 3 bedroom 2 bath house on a huge lot in a nice neighborhood for 160 thousand, try that In most states. I dont pay state income tax (they dont have it), it only cost me 20 bucks to license my car. Houses range from 100k to 500k and a 500k house here is like a 2 million dollar home in So Cal. Apartments can be had for 3 to 400 a month I mean nice apartments.

As for teaching I teach in a small town just south of Jacksonville, the kids are great (not insane and brain dead like So Cal) the parents for the most part care and the Administration treats me better.
I have 0 non English speakers in my classes, I havent had emotional problem students pawned off on me as Learning Disabled, and when I call a parent they actually care.

If I were you I would run not walk to North East Florida we have more teaching Jobs here than can be filled and the pay is great when you compare cost of living here to anywhere else. I might add that jacksonville was just named the nations 3rd best job economy city.

Do yourself a favor and try jacksonville or Middleburg but dont teach in Duval county schools they are crap ghetto schools stick to St Johns County.

The large numbers of people who move to Florida has created
a big demand for teachers, you should have no trouble finding
a position anywhere in the state.
You are correct, Florida can be hot, humid & rainy in the summer,
but most schools have a/c. South Florida, from Miami north
to West Palm Beach is very urban, as is the area around Tampa,
Jacksonville & the ever growing Orlando area. Most newcommers arrive in these areas.
North & central Florida, is still calm & relaxed and filled with
small towns with housing in the affordible range. Fishing is
a major sport down here.
NOTE: the public schools in Florida are in session from
mid-August to Memorial day & all students must pass a series
of exams called the FCAT, starting in grade school in order to
pass and graduate.
My advice; come to Florida for a week in July/August, get an idea
of what the weather is like before you commit.

Good Luck

Northwest Florida. There are some nice cities across the region from Pensacola to Tallahassee. Check it out. This area isn't quite as hot as South Florida, but unfortunately anywhere in Florida is hot at some point and for a good portion of the year. We've had some pretty chilly temps here in Pensacola over the last few weeks though. I'm not a hunter, but I know a lot of hunters who enjoy hunting this area or take a drive to alabama or georgia. I love freshwater fishing on Escambia River. There is plenty of good Gulf Fishing too, but my equilibrium can't handle it. Good luck in your search and thank you for teaching :)

It's Florida. You are too picky when it comes to weather. It stays HOT here 24/7 about 11 months out of the year. Find a big city (I live in Tampa Bay area), and search on surrounding areas. The further inland you go, the less expensive and populated it is. Good Luck!

Try Southwest Florida. Its close to the beach and not to far from big cities or open land or the Gulf of Mexico. I currently go to school in Sarasota County. That is supposed to be the best school system in the state. You might want to do a bit of research there.
