The Ancient Pyramids were built by laying the first 3 (approximate) layers of cut masonry blocks in a definitively measured square. The casing was usually of local limestone or sandstone.
As the layers perfectly fitting levels rose, ramps were built on the outside that graded upwards around the outside.
It is this way that we now know that the pyramids were constructed.
Over time there have been many theories, some quite fanciful,as to how the pyramids were constructed and by who!.
It could not be judged if the pyramid was going to be a success until it was almost to completed height and weight.
The ground that it was constructed on had to be hard and settled enough, to correctly hold the structure in is intended angle and position.
A result of this type of error is the Bent Pyramid.
The outer finish, usually of granite from Aswan, and the leveling of the masonry's facing, was carried out from the top down.
Only then was the ramp gradually dismantled and the dirt cleared away.
The inside passageways and chambers were intricately planned, by skilled mathematicians and architects. The actual building of these chambers was overseen by master craftsmen.
These specialised builders belonged to a craftsman's guild, that was dedicated to keeping the secret of the pyramids internal plan.
It was the main burial chamber that was placed directly under the apex of the pyramid, or as it is correctly called the pyramidon.
This is where the mummy of the dead Pharaoh would be placed in a sarcophagus, here it was intended to remain forever.
The entrance would be sealed and was never intended to be opened again. Outside and adjoining the pyramid there were temples and mortuary cult builds that were usually surrounded by a stone wall.A gateway would open onto a causeway that led to another temple on an landing purpose built for it on the bank of the Nile. this was the situation for all of the major pyramids of Giza.
There are over 200 recognised pyramids that have been researched in Egypt.
Pyramid building began in the 4th Dynasty of The Old Kingdom and by the end of the 5th Dynasty,by that time the pyramids had reduced in size and grandeur considerably.
To get a good idea of how to actually build a pyramid and judge your skills as a builder. Go to the B.B.C.'s Ancient Egypt site and follow the link to The Pyramid game.
Test your skill and see how you rated. It may not be so easy as you would imagine!
There are a lot of extra things to consider besides the actual construction.

like a big stone one?

well firstly you would need land and a building permit.
once you get those you will need about 10,000 workers and something along the lines of 20years to actually start building it...

i suggest you make one out of lego first...

hope this helps
