it's possible it could be a head or head gasket issue, but waaaayyyy more likely is a cracked and leaking intake manifold gasket. these 3.1s and 3.4s are notorious for this, and they can, and often do, cause coolant in the engine oil. sometimes, they leak externally; sometimes internally. my money is on the intake gskt.

I guess it isnt good. most shops eat u up in labor for thuis type of work. At the min you need to flush the oil & antifreeze & replace both head gaskets & the intake manifold. The intake RUNNERS are probably shot too if its a plastic plenium like on the 3800 series 2

The overheating would be BECAUSE you're losing coolant to the oil. You have a leak into engine from the coolant system. You're looking at a couple grand to spend to fix it, which could well be more than a 12 year old Chevrolet is worth. You could just as well buy a new engine and stick that in there.

hes right about the int takes on theese cars only bad thing is how bad is it if antifreeze is in the oil antifreeze will eat up the bearings you may also put it togeather only to find out you have blown head gaskets too be sure to perform a compression test if you do have a milkshake on the dipstick and in the pan i highly suggest anew motor

If it is a V-6 Gearhead is exactly right.
I have fixed many intake leaks that put coolant into the oil.

I'm afraid that there is only one diagnosis for those symptoms, that is either a cracked head or a blown head gasket. A compression check and a coolant system pressure check will confirm the diagnosis.
