No, Make a Police Report for Identity Theft! Report is ASAP to Social Security Administration, Internal Revenue Service, Federal Trade Commission,: Download form 3949 A from Internal Revenue Service, fill it out, make a copy and send it Certified Mail...make sure you place a Credit freeze on all of your credit with all three Credit reporting agencies. If you can provide Federal Trade Commission with enlarged color photos of yourself and fingerprints, that would help along with where you have lived, worked or gone to school. Identity thieves are hard to track down and sometimes are family members. So be prepared and say nothing, to out side sources.

You missed a bunch of steps here. You need to call the credit reporting agencies and report fraud on your credit report. You need to find out what this person is doing with your number, ie credit cards, loans, purchases and start working to get those taken care of. If there's damage being done you can't just get your number changed, and it's very difficul to do so.

no...you go to www.equifax.com and have them flag your soc. sec. no. so no one else can use it and they do extra research before any accounts are opened up to make sure it is you. Then go to annualcreditreport.com and make sure everything on there is legit, and contact any of the companies who are showing you have an account with them that you're unaware of. You can also dispute items from there as well.
I have only ever heard of one person who was reissued a social security number, and that's because she had over ten thousand people using her same number.

No, you go immediately to the police and file a complaint about identity theft. Make sure that any banks and credit cards know about this theft as well. Check your credit rating to make sure it has not been affected. Ask the police what else you should do about this matter.

Absolutely. Have your present number stopped immediately and ask them to issue a new number ASAP. Do this on this phone and by writing which is your proof that you have taken steps to protect yourself.
