I'd go to the next Rainbow gathering and ask around. I know that there are a lot of old hippies in the Ozarks--cheap living and good folks there--but I am sure there are other areas as well.

Vermont.
Virtually no business or industry other than tourism. Well down the path to socialism. Every road is lined with out of business farms, homes with sagging roofs, rusted out Ford plow trucks and "antique" shops. Not much to do and a great place for unmotivated unproductive burnout 60's era red diaper doper babies and other parasites.
Nice landscape and a few of Nature's wonders to admire but no place to find or create wealth. Economically, It's just like Detroit, MI or Camden, NJ but without the stench of burnt out ghetto housing projects or tire fires and except during hunting season no gunshot sounds.

Go to Western Massachusetts. There are TONS of "group housing"/"shared community" type places here. I'm not sure you have to show your "Old Hippie" card to get in (lol!) but it wouldn't hurt! Good luck....
