I'm 12 and I've had a boyfriend for 4 months (please no "you're too young" comments, since people at my school started going out in 4th grade) and we're the only "couple," which I hesitate to say, in which both people are in this class. Some of my friends were teasing me a few days ago about liking him, which happens about every day, very loudly while the teacher was sitting at her desk about 4 feet away. I'm not sure if she heard, but the next morning she gave this very long lecture about dating and and boyfriends and girlfriends and MARRIAGE and Dr. Lara (or something) and I can't help feeling like the whole speech was directed at me. And all day I've been getting these e-mails from my friends mocking me for having a boyfriend and sparking the entire lecture. Did my teacher
aim it at me or at the general public, and I
hate to ask this, but are 6th grade teachers supposed to
be interesting in who's going out and stuff?

I'm a middle school teacher. We know what's going on even before you think we do. It isn't that we are interested in the students' gossip, it is our job to provide you with positive choices.

Don't worry, there will be a new topic of interest to keep your friends busy in a few days. The spotlight on you and your relationship will fade.

Be Good ;-)

Well, it probably was regarding you, yet was directed at the whole class. Being a teacher, it is her job to discuss many things with you. Not just history or math. Its also her job to discuss things regardling life and growing up.
Im not gonna try to be your daddy here, but you are so young. Having boyfriends is ok....but not "BOYFRIENDS" if you know what i mean. Dont do anything stupid and dont take anything too far.
You certainly do seem to type and speak very well for a girl your age.

I'm 14 and i should know that teachers are absolutely not supposed to intervene with people's relationships! Gosh!
And as for everyone mocking you just ignore them.
Honestly they are just jealous of you and your relationship.
Trust me I know it happens to me all the time.
Don't feel bad feel proud!
And if you two are the only ones in a relationship in that grade the teacher was obviously pointing it to you. No big deal though it's not like he/she is your mother!
WHO CARES!

Good Luck

You're in sixth grade and the other kids are mocking you for HAVING a boyfriend. Gee, you certainly don't live in California. Let me guess: Missouri, Tennesee, Alabama, Kentucky, or Utah?

Anyways, she didn't exceed her authority in any way. She's just trying to help all-around and keep you safe.
