For my Chi-town peoples! How many blocks is lasalle from canal in the downtown area?

Off the top of my head I'd say it's about six or seven blocks. Easily walkable if that's the question.

Just looked it up. In the Loop it's four long blocks, with the last one crossing over the river.

Just North of the river it's five.

South of the Loop at Harrison it's five, but measures out more like seven because you have to cross the river and the Amtrak rails.
