The tree is only not very tall and is in a pot with a few other plants. My friend does not want the small citrus tree (limequat), but still wants the pot and other few plants in it. it is a large clay pot. how do i dig upt the tree without killing it?

You can try to remove the entire planting from the pot, then very carefully, peeling each plant away, trying the least amount of damage to each root system. Likely, many roots will be entangled and something will suffer. Transplant everything to new pots immediately and do not plant anything too much deeper than it was already potted.

If you think any of the roots were severely damaged during transplant, use a light dose of root stimulator (according to the directions, but use on the light side) to help stimulate the growth of new roots.

well if it has leaves on it and is out side in a pot wait till late in the evening and pull out the tree trying to keep as many roots as you can plant late in the evening and water well maybe it wont wilt
