Going for new tricks can be terrifying!! Gymnastics is an all mental sport. When your learning a new trick, work up to it. Do lots of drills so your body knows what to do and you may become more comfortable going for it. When it comes time to go for it, have confidence in yourself. If you tell yourself you can do it, then you can. Keep in mind, it hurts LESS if you go for it all the way. Another technique is to visualize yourself doing the trick. This really helps.
Just remember the first one is always the worst.

I used to do gymnastics, but I don't anymore. It can be really scary!!! I think the best way to overcome your fear is to just remember that an instructor is always there. When I would do a backhandspring I would always wait and just stand there and when I tried to do it I would either land on my knees or I would lose control!!! Make sure you don't stand there and wait because the longer you wait the more scared you'll get.

Its hard to answer, what bascally are you scared to do? Ive been doing gymnastics for 4 years, I am to scared to try my backhandspring by myself. Just remember your coaches are there for you, and a hugh help is: do it FAST! I mean if you do a stunt or anything in gymnastics it has to be fast in order to land. Its okay, you'll soon be a great gymnast.

if you are nervous about a particular move [eg front handspring] first of all get your coach to explain to you how its done, and then practice the general movement onto crash mats so you know you wont hurt yourself and get a bit of a feel for it. Then move onto the normal floor mats and havce a few people spotting you. Once you are confident to try doing it on your own, have a go! Then you have to keep practising until it becomes natural!
hope this helps
