Contacts are great. So convenient and most of the time you can barely feel them (unless you're overly tired, they can feel a little dry or they burn.)
When you go to pick up the lenses at the eye doctor's, a person will generally show you what to do. However, if they don't, follow these steps:
1. Wash your hands beforehand, this minimizes any burning or itchiness that results from dirt or oils when transferring the lens to your eye.
2. Place the lens on the tip of your index finger -- **making sure that the lens looks like a BOWL, not a SAUCER**... meaning that the outside rims on top curve up and don't get flat... you don't want to put them in backwards!
3. Open your eye as large as you can, sometimes it helps to hold your top and bottom lids open with your other hand.
4. Gently place the contact on your eye (using a mirror for this step will probably be smart!)
This definitely takes some getting used to, it took me about a week to be fully comfortable with putting them in and taking them out. Your eyes will probably burn a little and tear like crazy when you are putting them in for the first few times... but don't worry, soon you'll be a pro.
As far as taking them out is concerned, make sure your hands are clean. Gently use your index finger and thumb to kind of "pinch" the middle of the contact off.
Good luck!

Contact lenses are no big deal, it might seem weird at first to be putting something in your eye. I have been wearing lenses for about 3 years now and the best way to put them on your finger and make sure they are not upside down. Then just place them in the correct eye.

I've been wearing them for forty years or so now and its been much better than wearing specs would have been. I tend to wear them for very long days of 14 or 16 hours and they have not generally been any problem. Persevere a little longer unless they become really uncomfortable. Your eyes have to get used to having a foreign object in them for a start, and the additional weight being carried by your eye muscles can have a strange effect for a while, but you'll get used to it soon and then you probably won't even notice you have them in. Needless to say though, if you do experience any pain with them, or serious redness, go see your optician.

contact lenses are fab, i have been wearing them now for 10 years and wouldn't be without them. it is always important to wash your hands before putting in your lenses and i find using my index finger to put them in is a lot easier. use your index and middle finger on your other hand to open your eye and look up slightly, gently place wth contact lense on the surface of your eye and blink a couple of times and the lense will move into place.
good luck you will love them

I've been wearing contacts for almost 10 years now. You tend to find your own best way to put them in, so taking advice on that is literally useless when it's time for you to do it. I'd say it's best if you like to keep the natural look, I still have a pair of cute little glasses that i sport sometimes. But I love my contacts and look forward to laser one day.

I assume you're getting soft lenses (hard lenses are almost obsolete). Be careful, as they can tear easily if you pull at them too much. You eye care professional will help you put them in for the first time and go over how to remove them, as well as daily cleaning and care. You'll remove them by pinching them and pulling them off your eyeball.

contact lens are extremely comfortable, but it may take an hour or two the first time to put them in. i think the best way to put them is is to make sure that your hands are clean and dryy and the area around your eyes are dry or else your hands will slip and it may be harder to hold your eye open when putting in your contacts cause its like a natural reaction to close your eye up a bit.

I switched to contacts and couldn't be happier. They're so comfortable and convenient. When you go to pick them up your doctor will show you how to put them in and care for them. They'll keep you there while you put them in and take them out, just to make sure you have the hang of it.
Enjoy!
