I would really love to be a Teacher when I get older. I am very confused on why there is so many people out there that are totally disrespectful to teacher's who are teaching their children. And to all of those people who say that teacher's are poor. There are a lot of jobs out there that make way less than a teacher that have a college education. Who all thinks that teachers get no respect at all?

Teachers do not get the respect they deseve. I mean, they go to college for years and give students knowledge that will stick with them for life. I think, it's just that teachers don't always get on the students' levels. Students like teachers they can relate to. the ones that can take jokes and the ones that aren't strict. another thing you have to realize is kids will be kids and, i hate to say it, but being disrespected is inevitable, no matter who you are.

as long as you let your students know that you can take a joke and that you can be "hip", you should be fine.

P.S: watch out for the middles shool and hisgh school students. Elementary kids usuall aren't too much of a hassle.

That's a good question. Disrespect shown to teachers is a sign of the times, and just an example how kids respect for thier elders has diminished over time. Teachers wear the brunt of the disrespect because of the amount of time they spend with these kids. Some time-poor parents seem to delegate the responsibility of disciplining their children to the school. So the teacher has to teach and also discipline the students at the same time.

In my opinion, being a good teacher is not an easy skill to master. Only later in life do you begin to appreciate the hard work that some of the more dilligent teaches have put into your education. Teachers should get a *lot* more respect (and higher salaries) than they do now.

In my school experience, years 7, 8 and 9 appear to be the worst classes to teach, avoid them if you can. Good luck and all the best...

I beg to disagree. Teachers are holding a respectable profession; the respect is earned out of their Qualification, Knowledge and ability to impart the knowledge to the students. If the parents think that they need not respect the teachers, that is a personality problem.

In Eastern philosophy, a child gets to know the mother first. The mother introduce the child to his father. The father introduce the child to the teacher and the teacher introduce the child to God.
When we hear stories about incompetence of teachers, disrespectful behaviors of teachers, the profession as a whole get tarnished. Hence the attitude. Otherwise it is a noble profession dignified and respectful.

It is a crying shame how little respect and pay that poor teachers get. Parents think it's the teachers place to raise their children with no help from them., but they are not allowed to reprimand them in any way. I think there are three things missing from today's education: Jesus, the paddle and the American Flag. When these three things went so did a great education.

It is because children don't always see teachers on the same social level. They want things their own way, as all do, but, unlike others, they are intolerant to all who oppose their judgement, and/or give them bad grades. These teachers are generally the ones who are disrespected. If a teacher wants to receive more respect, tighten their grip. The children wil see eventually.

I know a lot of good teachers that I will never forget because of their love of teaching and sharing their knowledge with us. But to those teachers that I personally disrespect, it is mostly because they are more aware of their salaries than teaching a bunch of kids how to be better people in society. Don't get me wrong, being a teacher is a honor but you have to make sure you teach with love and PATIENCE!

here is a quote that I found through the internet:
the one that teaches learns when is teaching and the one who learns teaches when is learning. We can only learn something when we put emotion in what we are learning that is why is fundamental to teach with joy.

I'd like to know the answer to this one also. In general I think people are just not respecting others as much as they use to. Look at how the children are in school. They know that you can't do anything to them, otherwise their parents will sue you or worse. They misbehave, they backtalk and the list goes on. And what really kills me! They talk to their parents the same way. The parents tolerate that behavior. It's not all the kids but I am seeing it more and more. It's not just teacher's either its all professions.

because jobs like teachers, doctors, politicians, etc. are really idolized as jobs only held by perfectly moral and just people, which is way too much to ask of a person.

Because all the authority regarding discipline has been taken away from them and the kids know it. They know that no matter what they do, the worst thing that will happen is detention or a phone call home.

Respect is no longer a valued commodity in our relationships. People are more interested in their 'rights' than in giving respect to others.
