I have a linksys wireless adapter with speed booster. It was working yesterday but today it just says "acquiring network address". Now it doesnt connect to my router. I tried disabling the TCI/IP under the properties then it says connected, but wont let me access any applications that need to connect to a network like AIM of IE. This is understandable, but I need some advice on what to do. Has anyone had a similar problem and how did you solve it?
Btw: My router doesnt have any security set on it, so that isnt the issue.

If your router has no security on it....try logging in to it using a ethernet/network cable and enter the routers IP address into your browser.

If it does not work, try changing your IP address to a manual one within the same subnet as the routers IP...i.e. routers IP = 192.168.0.1..so your IP = 192.168.0.2 (upto .99) (Subnet mask with both = 255.255.255.0)

It might be that your router has been accessed by someone else and they have denied you access! Seen that many times before.

Has something recently changed in your physical topology First logical step would be to power cycle the router and usually that solves most of the connection issues and second thing if this doesn't resolve anyhting is try pinging your adapters loopback address which in most cases is 127.0.0.1 to see if your adapter is functioning. Their could be lot of things for example you in built DHCP server is acting up, try accessing your router via cable and see the configuration in order to access the router you first need to know your routers network address most commonly its 192.168.1.0 (remember thats a network address, your actual address could be any number between than 1 and 254) in SOHO routers but it could vary. If your router comes with a manual then its a good time to go over it.

Try unplugging the router from the wall, wait a few minutes, then plug it back in. Sometimes network equipment needs to be reset for various reasons, try resetting it like this and see if it starts working.

I cant seem to figure out what the problem could be... Move closer to the router, perhaps?
