Ask your friend if you can have some alone time with her, so she can get out what ever it is on her mind, assure him that you will hurt her or anything like that. Then when you get your chance if she agrees with it then ask her what exactly is eating at her. Be prepared though, she may say your around to much, you treat her with no respect and so on.............. When you find out what is going on then deal with it and compromise if need be. If you are the reason your friend and his woman break up it will come back to haunt you, your friend may so no it want but it will eventually. Good luck.

First off, are the rumours really damaging? Do they really matter?

Could you just ignore the rumours? Anyone who believes them arent really a friend and therefore no loss to you - their opinion shouldn't matter.

Stick around for your friend. If he asks your opinion about her then you can be honest but he doesn't ask, then just support him.

The truth will come out in the end and if you have supported your best friend, he will appreciate you all the more in the end.

Agree to disagree. Tell her that since you both care about your friend, you want to start a truce and at least pretend to like each other when you're around him, for his sake. If she won't do that, then tell your friend that you don't like her and let him know that you don't want to hang out with him when he's with her (but don't tell him to break up with her- that will just get him to turn on you).

You need to tell your friend what she is doing and how its making you feel and how it is effecting your friendship with him, let him know you still want to be friends but you don't want to hang around him when she's there, schedule time where you guys can chill but she's not there with him.
