Ain't is a version of "am not". The argument teachers used to use for NOT using it was "It's not in the dictionary" Now it is. So are a lot of words you can't say on TV...just because Webster added it to the dictionary doesn't give it worldwide acceptance.

Lord knows who came up with it.

You really should avoid using "ain't". It gives the impression of ignorance.....no matter where you use it.

This is a slang word, so there's no instance you could use this in the classroom. It's a fun word to use if you're speaking grammatically incorrect on purpose. Example: I ain't got bad grammar- I know a thing or two that ain't been learnt you yet.

In strict form, "ain't" is not a word. Yes, it is now in the dictionary and everyone uses it, but to be literally correct, you say 'is not' or 'are not' or 'am not', but never "ain't". The only time it is acceptable is if you are writing a story and it is in the dialogue.

yeah, it's just a slang word, use isnt instead. aint would be abbreviated for are not or something along those lines, and isnt is not. so think about it, ex: ' this isnt right... sounds good, ex: ' this aint right.... sounds good but slang, ... ex: this are not right.... sounds horrible... and ex: ' this is not right is proper, so basically dont really use it unless with some ghetto friends.

When you're south of the Mason-Dixon line ... otherwise, it's considered slang and shouldn't be used in polite company.

Don't use it in your writing, or when you talk (to something professional, like a teacher, etc.)

"aint" is slang for "am not". Perhaps your teacher is just trying to improve your grammar.
