Whenever I go to a restaurant to pickup dinner to bring home, they always act like I'm an ****** for not leaving a tip. I'm buying the food, not the service. I always thought you tipped the waitstaff only if you actually sat down and used their service. Am I right?

I've never expected it. In fact it was rare that I ever got a tip for handing over food and ringing it up. The kitchen did the boxing up of the food, I just took the money. I never expected a tip for that.

Unless your order involved 20 different boxes of food and complicated orders, then I'd hope...HOPE...for a $5 or something.

Nope, sorry you're not right.
Because the people who carefully put your order together were most likely the service staff who took time away from their customers in the dining room to do so.
If you can splurge for restaurant food instead of cooking or getting fast food, is a few more bucks really gonna kill you?

i do not think a tip should be left if you go in and pick up food, however if you do not have to get out of your car, (curbside service) you may want to leave a dollar or two.
