The guy was an outright plagirist who had no original thought. See John Mason. He was also a slave owner and adulterer. Alexander Hamilton knew him for what he was, why has this been lost in history.

Does anyone wish to disagree that the declaration and constitution were written verbatim from things written by John Mason. Why is Jefferson called the "author"

It's hard for a country to come to terms with its past and values have changed. Jefferson was good for his time.
I think that in the US you are not really allowed to criticies the state or figures like this because you are such a new culture and you have to value the small history you have because that is what gives you identity. Once you feel more secure in who you are you will be able to accept your mistakes and those of people in the past more easly.

You need to read more ON Jefferson and less about him from the anti founding fathers history revisionist folks. Yep he was a slave owner but he was not a slave abuser and not a racist because he actually did love one and had a child. But slavery was part of the scene at that time, whether you brutalized your slaves is more important than if you had them. In the next century you might be condemned because you owned a car and damaged the environment. Hamilton was a self centered opportunist who lived in Jefferson's shadow. Making Hamilton a great American hero would be about as hard as trying to make history see Jimmy Carter as a great one term President.

What a joke. Thomas Jefferson had more brains than he knew what to do with. I would love to know what woman he cheated on while he was married to his wife Martha that makes him an adulterer. Go ahead and prove that he did it with one of his 14 year old slaves at the age of 62. Recent DNA reports did prove that a JEFFERSON did do it with Sally Hemmings but there is no proof that it was with Thomas. It could be one of the many male Jeffersons that either lived in or around Montecello at the time.

Jefferson doubled the size of the United States with the Lousiana Purchase. He kept us out of war with the Embargo Acts. He wrote the Declaration of Independence. He worked hard for religious freedom, and public education, and was against slavery. Politically, he was a genius and founded the modern partisan, political system. He was one of the greatest party leaders of all time. He was one of the best governors of Virginia and one of our finest ministers to France. He worked hard against monarchy and for the republican system of government. He was our first secretary of state, our second vice president, and our third president.

We revere people for the good of them, not the bad. Everyone has something not good about them. It's rising above this human frailty that makes a person great.
