I've been following my Pirates for over 40 years and this is the first time since the early 1990s that I'm excited about their chances. They have added the long sought after power hitter they have been looking for in Adam LaRoche and their young pitching staff has a years experience under their belts. The second half of last season shows that they're an up and coming team. I honestly think they will play over .500 baseball for the first time in 15 years. Look for even better improvement in the years to come. A young team that is on the way up after being dismal for so long!

i think they will be about .500 this year. they have a pretty solid lineup:
1. chris duffy CF
2. jack wilson SS
3. freddy sanchez 3B
4. jason bay LF
5. adam laroche 1B
6. xavier nady RF
7. ronny paulino C
8. jose castillo 2B
and they also have jose bautista that can play OF, 3B and 2B.
as for their pitching, i think their rotation can really do well this season:
1. ian snell
2. zach duke
3. tom gorzelanny
4. paul maholm
5. tony armas jr.
and for starting pitchers, they also have sean burnett coming off injury, shawn chacon, and shane youman.
their bullpen is still pretty good even though they traded away mike gonzalez. they have john grabow, matt capps, damaso marte, josh sharpless and salomon torres. i'm not really sure who will fill in for closer, but their bullpen will be solid no matter who it is.
so i think the pirates will be about .500 this season, maybe 75+ wins, or at least i hope so. i was born in 1991 and the pirates have never had a winning season in my lifetime, and i think this year may be the one.

There is no way they will ever be good without spending any money. They have good players and then get rid of them b/c they refuse to pay them. They cant pay them because of fan support.

Unfortunately no, but you should see a big improvement over last year. They should steadily improve over the next few seasons.

No, but in a few years they will be. Freddy Sanchez is good, but the team is very young and inexperienced, but they will be good in a few years.
