I recently (as in 2 weeks ago) got a hatchling baby ball python. He hasn't eaten since then, but I was told not to worry.

I took him out of his cage today, and he started rotating his head (exposing his white belly). This was when I held him and when I had him on the floor.

I don't know what this behaviour means :( Someone please help!

Once you have your snake and got him/her set up at home, the best thing to do is leave it alone for at least a week or two. This will give your snake time to get comfortable in it's new home. A snake that is not stressed and acclimated will eat, and generally be a better pet. After you've patiently waited a few weeks, I would try and feed it it's first meal See Feeding Strategies. Once it eats a few times for you, it's OK to start handling your snake for short periods of time. I feel it's better to get them out of the cage with a snake hook×. Ball Pythons do not usually bite, but if a bite is going to happen, reaching your hand into the tank is typically when it does. The snake may not know your intentions and see you as a predator or confuse you with a food item. Bites very rarely happen, and fortunately do not hurt any worse than getting a shot from the doctor. Once you've had your snake for awhile you will be able to "read" it based on it's body posture and activity cycles. For the most part, hatchlings may tend to be a little more defensive and/or hungry, and adults are typically very docile.

could be just wanting to be petted thats what mine does when he wants attention my bp loves being petted under the chin and on his belly also if his belly is pinkish in color dont handle him for about 10 -12 days he is in shedding mode and if you handle him when his eyes blue over he may strike from being scared also if he was scared like there name suggests they ball up into a tight ball and tuck there head in between there body

I hate to say this but it sounds like he is dying ... do you know if he has eaten before you got him? Its also important that his humidity is good, a baby ball get get dehydrated pretty quickly. Good luck, and I hope i am mistaken.

That means he wants to come out of his cage.

I would call a vet and ask them. Or if you got the egg from some one who raises snakes from eggs contact them.

Being young he is just reacting to being held.
