It is something that is hurtful to many. It reminds me of the time I was in grammar, junior high, and high school. I was taunted over my inability to communicate with written material. I hated to read anything in front of the class; I usually started reading many things backwards. You see, being dyslexic in the 1960's in the deep south placed you into a vacuum that was difficult to escape. Even the teachers humiliated me. One teacher said the only work I will get is in a gas station. She said I would become a filling station cowboy.
I served in the Vietnam War. This war was fought mostly by poor white trash men and black men. But I did have a group I felt comfortable with. Even after Vietnam, I never swayed from my comfort zone. I even played in an all black band in an all black club called Club Three in Columbus, Georgia.
But thank God an army tester noticed I had a problem. I was sent to Atlanta and given a chance to work within the dyslexia. Years later, I am a professor of English. But, to give a speech is agonizing; I still tend to read backwards and miss label letters and numbers. As for my hometown, I pray things have changed, because no child deserves to be left behind.
Yes, I get angry with the grammar Nazis. You really hit the nail on the head when you used Nazi. It infuriates me for some of these jerks who insult a poor sixteen year old Indonesian girl about her English. But I found out the girl speaks three languages. As for the people who humiliated her, they probably speak one.

I am probably the queen of the Grammar Nazis. My question is, why do you feel the need to purposely antagonize the Grammar Nazis? I feel most people with bad grammar and spelling on here are just too lazy too correct it or are purposely trying to look like a grammar slob. THIS is what take the fun out of questions for me, if you have to wade through the bad spelling and grammar to get to the gist of the Q! There is Check Spelling for a reason. If I feel someone truly can't spell or write, need a decent answer for a decent Q, then I overlook it and get to the Q.

I dislike when a person's whole answer is only about how the person asking misspelled a word or something. That's pretty rude and wastes more time than if they would just answer.I don't think it's a big deal to make mistakes, we all do on one thing or another.

I think there are some people who don't do many things well so they have to exaggerate the importance of that skill; and if they have to tear you down in the process, so be it.
Really it is sick.

I know, it's like they jump on what they see as an opportunity to make themselves appear superior. They must be so insecure.....
