i am looking to rent a room in a major city but i'm a little scared because i dont know anybody to rent from and would have to rely on the internet to find someone to rent from. I'm afraid of renting a room from some sort of weirdo. Can anyone make any advise on the safest way to find a room for rent and any websites that i might go to?

(the best way to to that is to just find a place with someone for the right price and get their full name, BE UPFRONT WITH THEM, just let them know, I'm sure you're a good person, it's jst for my own peace of mind, may I do a background check for you? You don't always need all of their information, you can go to places like: (try this);

Always look at the room, the house it's in, and the neighborhood before you rent a room in a rental house. I used to live in several of these. Some are ok. It depends on who else is in the house. These are the people you will be sharing a bathroom and kitchen with. Always lock your door when you are home and when you leave. Keep your toilet paper in your room because if you leave it in the bathroom, it won't be there next time you go. Places that rent to females only are probably better, I wouldn't know. I have had some good house-mates who were decent. I have had some house-mates who were drug addicts. People would walk up and down the stairs all night long. Some dude I didn't even know was just hanging out in the bathroom for hours. That was creepy and I left that place. 4 out of the 5 rental rooms I've had were bearable. As a woman, you should be protective of yourself and trust no one. It might be better to find another woman who has an ad in the paper seeking a female roommate.

The real thing with renting a room in city, or even getting into an advertised roomate situation, is that everybody has the chance to be very odd. Rent.com usually has good suggestions for housing in larger cities. Personally I prefer to use a hotel until my job settles and feel things out.
