As you say the heater is on and still the temperature inside the room is 18 degree it means there is more ingress of cold air in your room. The perception of cold and hot , you may feel depends on the layer of fat deposited under your skin. If the fat layer is less you will feel more cold or hot in comparison to who have more fat layers. Fat layer is useful only in this regard as it isolates the sensing nerves from the environment.

Depending on where a patient is in terms of treatment would determine what a cold would be like for a cancer patient. In the overwhelming majority of times . . a cold is just the same in a cancer patient as in a normal person. Complications can occur if the patient is on chemotherapy and has reached what is called 'nadir' . . nadir is the lowest point the white blood count reaches before starting to go back up. It is during this low point that a cancer patient is susceptible to germs and bacteria. Usually a cancer patient would try to avoid crowds and anyone with a cold during this time period (which can last anywhere from one day to a few weeks depending on the counts). My son was diagnosed with cancer over two years ago and has only had one cold the entire time. But, he has had two bacterial infections. We watch his counts closely and when his immune system is low he stays away from people and uses the bacterial hand wash. We all do. But most of the time his immune system is good enough to fight off colds in the same way that anyone else does.

Try turning on the heater, there is no reason for you to be in a house that is 18 degrees on the inside. If your heater can't keep up, or if there is no fuel oil, propane, electricity or whatever you use for heat, then go somewhere else where there is a warmer enviornment.

18 degrees F. is cold unless it's 18 C. You must have some sort of chemical imbalance try iron or turn up the heater.
