Things to consider are:
How the team finished the year before.

Do they have playoff experience?

If they made the playoffs, how far did they go?

Are they losing a lot of players to free agency?

Have they made any key acquisitions?

Do they have a legitimate star?
(It takes more than one to go all the way)

How tough is their division?
(Winning a weak division at 9 and 7 and then playing the champ of a really tough one in the playoffs is not a good thing)

Looking at all these things I would think that NO should be a contender next year. The Bears are primed to win again also.

As an example, when the Patriots were the dominant AFC team the Colts ended up making the playoffs but didn't have the experience or all the pieces in place to beat them. With experience, good acquisitions, playing a tough schedule, and learning from the more experienced Pats, they were finally ready. They proved this by beating the top three defenses, and the Patriots, and winning the Super Bowl. I have felt that any AFC team that won the conference should have to beat the Patriots just to say they had gone through the class of the conference.

The Patriots are a great example too. Once they had everyone in place and gained all of that playoff experience, they were virtually unstoppable. It took a team with Hall of Fame abilities to do it. While the Colts were coming up, the Pats were peaking. Now look for a real war when these two meet again.

I say this as a Colts fan who can watch a game and not let my emotions run wild. The Patriots showed the Colts how to be a winner. Finally, when they played the Colts were able to put it together.

I remember when both teams stank and it was a who-cares game. Now, watch out!

Nobody picked NO. If they say they did they are a hardcore Saints fan or lying. All you can do is pick the team witht the easiest schedule and they best players from last year. Players and teams will always suprise you. Like Frank Gore and the Niners or Steve Mcnair and the Ravens. I did predict Bears and Colts at the beginning of the season though.

Pay attention to the numbers. Also use a gut feeling. The case of NO is a rare instance where a puzzle was put together and everything clicked. Also with Katrina I believe they developed more heart.

the best things to do would be to pay attention to how teams end the year also pay attention to what they are doing in the offseaseon in terms of free agency and the draft as in who they are signing and who they are drafting and what players they are losing as well and things will be clearer

I use a Ouija board, if that doesn't work, use your pet to predict, you got a better chance that way.
