It refers to the vagina.

Of interest (possibly) in the UK, MANY years ago, there was a street in London, Oxford and Northampton called "Gropecun* lane" - this was not an unfortunate accidental naming either - it was the street that was used mostly by the prostitues at the time.

Over time it was considered a little indecent (!) and was in most cases shortened to simply Grope Street/Lane and finally in the case of Northampton I think it became Grove Street.

If the last letter of this word is a T, it is a rather vulgar word for vagina. This is usually meant as an insult, although I find it quite repugnant that people can use the female genitalia as an insult. There is a nice part of the play "Vagina Monologues" called "reclaiming cun*"!
