They have this new thing that they put in your uterus right. And it has two little strings on it and it is birth control for up to five years. Anyone using it and do you have any advice. I can't seem to remember the pill... this just stays in

It sounds like you may be talking about the Mirena IUD. IUDs have been around for many years, and are a very reliable form of birth control. Mirena is a very effective contraceptive method. It's inserted into the uterus in a doctor's office and remains in place for up to five years. It releases a small amount of progestin into the body, which can help make menstrual periods lighter or even non-existant for some, in addition to providing contraception.

I'm not currently using it, but discussed it as an option with my health care provider in the past. Some doctors are reluctant to insert IUDs into women who haven't had children but they are safe for women without children to use.

If remembering the pill is a problem, but you like the regularity of your cycles with the pill, you may also want to ask your doctor about Ortho-Evra (the patch) or Nuva Ring.

no that is a pill

but

What is Mirena®?
worry-free birth control for up to 5 years (or less, if you choose
Birth control that’s removable when you want to, so you can have a quick return to fertility and adapts to your contraceptive needs through the different stages of your life.
That’s Mirena, an estrogen-free intrauterine contraceptive (IUC) that delivers small amounts of hormone directly to the uterus. Mirena also offers:

99.9% effective in preventing pregnancy for up to 5 years (or less, if you choose)1
Provides lower and steadier hormones than the Pill
Won’t cause significant weight gain2
Easily removed with quick return to fertility1
May also help shorten, lighten or even eliminate periods3

Mirena is AWESOME, but it's definitely best for wmen who've had a child, or really don't want children in the near future. I had Mirena done about a year ago, after I had my second child, and my doctor expressed concern about my using Depo-Provera for too long a time period (osteoprosis risk).
I coud not be more please - my periods are very light, if atall; the cramping was gone very quickly; I am hardly aware of the IUD's presence, and it seems to work just fine!!

You are thinking of Mirena. It is an interuterine device or IUD. This releases hormones to keep you from getting pregnant. These are good for people who can't remember to take other forms of birth control.

I have Mirena..........and love it. I no longer have heavy painful periods or PMS. It best if you have already had a child but some Dr's will place it in women who haven't.
