Whenever I talk to my friends who are gay, they a lot of times speculate on other people who come up in the conversation (who sometimes even have a significant other of the opposite sex) as being gay. I would think it maybe has to do with being so attuned to reading other people's sexuality that gay people tend to do this, and also that its comforting to find 'comrades in arms'. What other reasons do you think contribute to this?

Probably wishful thinking -- finding that person attractive and hoping, unconsciously, that the interest would be mutual?

Straight people make the same speculations.

I suspect it's because all of us look for people similar to ourselves and explain difference between ourselves and others by making generalizations.

My, my, my...you see this is a case of our society building stereotypes to determine who we are. I am a woman and just because I can hang drywall, paint, or change a radiator hose...I automatically have "lesbian" tendencies....I have no lesbian tendencies...I just know how to drywall, paint, and change a damn radiator hose! Also, sounds like you need new friends because if they talk this way about people you know behind their back....they are probably talking about you too. What's the point of bringing it up anyway? I agree with the chic up top...do your friends have a fantasy of being with these people they talk about? If that's the case tell them to keep it a fantasy because you don't want to hear about it....unless, of course, you DO want to hear about it...lol...just playin'! Tell your friends to keep it real and stop talking about people...their attitudes would change if (them being gay) they got accused of being STRAIGHT! Just pray for them honey and I will too! Peace!
