They cheat on each other, they're overweight, they slack off at work, they'd rather watch TV than have a hobby, etc.

You seem to be suggesting that Americans in general are lazy. Actually, the last stats I read suggested that the average American worked more hours per week than nationals of any other country. France (for example) has a 35 hour job week. I have lived in Europe and know that the employment laws are very different: it's really difficult to fire somebody. Many Americans will quite typically work more than 40 hours per week for fear of losing their job; by contrast, the Europeans will tell their employer to 'get stuffed' cause it's quittn' time. Europeans also get more (paid) statutory holidays/religous holidays and MUCH more vacation time (in Germany 8 weeks PAID vacation is standard).

I think Americans are feeling pretty exhausted. Cooking healthy meals takes tons of work. When you are that hungry and tired after working a 9 or 10 - or more - hour day who has time for extensive food preparation and clean-up? TV watching is a passive activity that requires far less energy than a 'hobby' (which by definition is active rather than passive).

About the cheating: I think that in France and Italy it is still quite usual for men to have mistresses. I can't remember who the French statesman was...at his funeral a number of years ago right behind his wife...came his mistress. Nobody bats an eyelash.

Your government has been working for decades now to dumb down the American people. If you're wondering why so many people around the world dislike America, it's because it is infuriating watching how EASILY lead you people are by the lies and deception of your leadership and media - eagerly waving your flags and shouting 'U.S.A!, U.S.A!
You are becoming a product of brainwashing from TV and Hollywood and fast becoming the laughing stock of the human race. An embarrassment to our Western culture.
SOMEONE HAS TO TELL YOU THIS!!! You people are high on power and greed, ignorance and gluttony and MOST of you have NO IDEA!

People have always cheated on each other, been overweight and slacked off at work. People watch TV because it exists and they have it... and as you suggest... they haven't developed other interests.

We overeat because food is so accessible and constantly being thrust on us and we don't have to work to get it. My mother tells of her childhood in the 1930s when they killed a chicken for Sunday dinner, they pulled the turnips, they kept the garden, they canned the vegetables so they would have something to eat over the winter. They kept the hogs and cattle. They worked for their food. Today we just walk through the grocery store... and most of us work in front of computers and sit in front of computers or TVs for entertainment.

The easy life has surpassed the abiliy of our bodies to deal with it!

Most have LOST their Way!!!

But you can find it you do this!!!

Each morning upon rising, and each evening before sleeping, gives thanks for the life within you and for all life, for the good things the Creator has given you and for the opportunity to grow a little more each day. Consider your thoughts and actions of the past day and seek for the courage and strength to be a better person. Seek for the things that will benefit others (everyone).

2. Respect. Respect means "To feel or show honor or esteem for someone or something; to consider the well being of, or to treat someone or something with deference or courtesy". Showing respect is a basic law of life.

3. Once a council has decided something in unity, respect demands that no one speak secretly against what has been decided. If the council has made an error, that error will become apparent to everyone in its own time.

4. Be truthful at all times, and under all conditions.

5. Always treat your guests with honor and consideration. Give of your best food, your best blankets, the best part of your house, and your best service to your guests.

6. The hurt of one is the hurt of all; the honor of one is the honor of all.

7. Receive strangers and outsiders with a loving heart and as members of the human family.

8. All the races and tribes in the world are like the different colored flowers of one meadow. All are beautiful. As children of the Creator they must all be respected.

9. To serve others, to be of some use to family, community, nation, and the world is one of the main purposes for which human beings have been created. Do not fill yourself with your own affairs and forget you’re most important talks. True happiness comes only to those who dedicate their lives to the service of others.

10. Observe moderation and balance in all things.

11. Know those things that lead to your well-being and those things that lead to your destruction.

12. Listen to and follow the guidance given to your heart. Expect guidance to come in many forms; in prayer, in dreams, in times of quiet solitude, and in the words and deeds of wise Elders and friends.

Wahoo!!!

Our economy has switched from a manufacturing based economy (jobs given to China), into a service based economy - sales, marketing, management, consulting etc. So in our work lives, in order to get ahead and provide for our families, we have to compete with those who nave made thier ways to the tops of our largest corporations by ling, cheating and stealing ect. More and more over the years, the companies that have lived by the ethical business rules, have gotten stomped on by those who work based on the "ends justify the means" philosophy.

It has become harder and harder for a honest businessman get a head in America, so lying and cheating have become the standard in our day jobs. American's have brought this way of thinking from our offices and into our homes.

As a result our lives have become overwhelmed with dishonesty and the stress that goes with with it all. To make up for it, we try to escape it thorugh overeating and the television. (notice all the reality tv on our televisions?... it's to compare our lives with those of others, in a way they way they emabarrass those people on the reality shows, to make us feel a little better about how bad our own lives have become. I hope people from other countries do not think all Americans are as dumb as the people on those shows.)

Having a hobby is nearly useless in America, because most Americans are driven by wealth and greed. There is no moeny to be made in pottery or carpentry. That is all imported from other countries, and a business in that would be squished in our ecomonmy. Physical hobbies are pointless as well, as we think of exercize as a means to become physically attractive (rather than to be healthy) and, well, there's plastic surgery for that.

Well I hope your not talking from, your own personal experience, to some people tv is a hobby, who are you to judge. believe me a lot of Americans still do live the good life, they eat healthy foods, they don't cheat on their spouses, their hobbies are helping folks, they are called Christians. It might do you some good to watch some T.B.N. also it couldn't hurt!

That others don't live as you would choose to live does not mean that they don't "lead their lives well." Chances are, from my perspective and experience, I would consider your life a narrow, gray, empty, waste of an existance. That doesn't make it true, as it's obviously what makes you happy.

this is the result of tax and spend and failed liberalism....we as americans lose self reliance and rely on big governement. liberals as the pelosi ites have a difficult lesson to relearn...moraility and common sense cant be legislated and those who dont learn from history as this bunch hasnt are doomed to repeat it.
