Right clicking on my computer and going to properties will generally give you the CPU and RAM information. However dependent upon if the unit utilizes shared video and the processor type this information may not give you the true amounts but rather what the operating system reconizes.

If it is an OEM (store bought) computer you can usually check the specs of the system by google'ing the model number.

Another way is also (keep in mind that playing in the BIOS is not suggested) to enter the BIOS (dependent on the system it may be the esc, F1, F4, Del, F2 and so on, it generally says at startup) and once inside the BIOS you can check the system information and it will give you the exact amount of RAM and processor speed

Boot the computer; watch for the setup menu as it boots (black screen with white lettering) hit the key to get into the BIOS (it will probably be f2 but could also be del key or the esc key. Once in the BIOS you can not only see your memory but processor speed as reported by the BIOS. Sometimes the OS will report erroneously.

Usually when the computer starts up, it will give this information. Just watch carefully. Or in windows 2000 or windows XP, click on start, then on run, and type dxdiag. This will bring up more information.

Easiest way (take notes folks) is to download a small program that does this for you.

www.cpuid.com

Download and unzip CPU-Z, run it, and it gives you system info by tabs.

Best utility I ever discovered.
