My folks lived there for several years.
It is not that boring --- they have a Woodman's grocery store.

Beloit is right on the border with Illinois, about ten miles north of Rockford. They have a college, creatively named Beloit College.

Beloit is located on a river which splits the town into east and west sides. There really is no downtown, just a few commercial districts.

My favorite story about Beloit is a friend of mine who was interviewing for a job there. The interview says "It's only 50 miles from Madison, 50 miles from Milwaukee, 90 miles from Chicago" and my friend thought "And only 900 miles from New York City."
