I have two very good reasons....

1.) This way some people won't have to exert themselves by looking up.

2.) It used to be (back in the day) that people would plant and harvest crops by the moon phases.

Other then that, I have no idea. =P

It's surprising that they do, I agree, because most people (especially Americans) could not care less about anything having to do with something not related to celebrities, sports, fast money, or sex.

However, hunters may relish the information (those who hunt at nights, especially), and fishermen know that tides are important to their day-to-day existence.

In the fall, around harvest time the nearest full moon rises at a low angle to the horizon (because of the relative tilt of the earth's axis and the plane of the moon's orbit) and therefore rises at about the same time each night. This is called Harvest Moon, because it aids the farmer in working later each night, for an extended period.

I like your question..it's one that is so obvious that few would even think to ask it. Bravo!

Some people that might want to view the moon wouldn't need to waste their time if there was no moon visible.

I think you need to ask that question of a serious fisherman. Not kidding, here. The amount of light at night affects when fish feed.

People, may be not you, do stuff based on the moon face, like, have sex, cutting your hair, starting a diet, etc.
