Money is valuable because it can be traded for so very many other things. You can use it to get food, cars, clothes, companionship, attention, power and more. It can get you an enormous array of things. So many people work for the money to make sure they never want for those other things.
Sometimes money really does make you happier. It doesn't replace friendship or pride of accomplishment, but it's easier to have enough money to pay the bills and do fun things than it is to struggle to pay the bills and be restricted in what you do. That involves organization,too- rich people can still work their way into debt if they aren't responsible with their money- but there's an old saying that goes, "I've been rich and I've been poor. Rich is better."
That sounds shallow- unless you've been in a situation where you didn't know where your next meal was going to come from.

I only pursued things i enjoyed for most all my life, then I lost my home and all possessions to a disaster.with no insurance.so now I NEED to get back to where I was.I don't care about it so much for just the joy of having things, its a survival type thing.both my brothers or multi millionaires.ALL they seem to care about is making more money and buying more things, I will never be that way, if I get to having a lot of money one day thats fine though.I care more about being in the spirit of God and letting it guide me.If I one day make a lot of money which looks right now that I will, I will help others as well as myself. as best I can.
Peace

everybody wants decent food, clothing, comfortable shelter, and and the other basics (maybe even a toy or two, like a boat). But rampant consumerism is the result of media and cultural manipulation, mostly. But for some people it's just a big board game. Real-life monopoly if you will.

There are a couple possibilities:
They think it'll make their life easier, thus happier.
They think they'll be liked if they have more wealth and possessions, thus happier.
They don't realize they don't need those things.

Let me put it this way, I do not work to get rich or just to pay my bills. I work to buy the things I want. Also to have money to do the things I like or want to do. Anything extra is just fluff.
